If you haven’t seen it already, please take a moment to swing by the newly re-vamped SUNY Chancellor’s Award display outside the President’s Suite in the Guenther lobby.
After many years of fading and discoloration due to sunlight exposure, it was determined that something needed to be done to restore the dignity due our esteemed colleagues of today and yesteryear. All the former plaques have been replaced with new frames, and all photos and descriptions have been reprinted and replaced as well. The new format will hold up better over time, allowing for improved flexibility and greatly reduced maintenance costs.
Many thanks to all those involved in this initiative:
— John Heiser, director of Creative Services, for the vision and initiative to lead the project
— Vincent Giordano, campus photographer, for digital photo restoration and printing
— Mary Beth Mullen and Mark Gregory in the Graphics Department, and Scott Austin, Bob Connolly and Marilyn Torres-Melendez in the Print Shop for assistance with unwrapping 200 frames, cleaning them and reassembly with the new prints inside
— Matt Weir, building maintenance supervisor II, and other Physical Plant staff members for re-engineering the existing display system to accommodate the new frames, repainting the system and installing all the frames in a timely manner.
